Samsung Electronics South Africa is proud to announce the winners of its ‘For the Love of Food’ competition, which encouraged South Africans to share original and memorable food stories and recipes that tap into their heritage.
The six category winners will each receive their share in R300 000 worth of Samsung products, whilst the 12 runner-ups will also win Samsung products, to the value of R150 000.
“By tapping into the hearts of ordinary South Africans, we were able to hear some truly inspiring tales, relating to culture, tradition and ultimately their passion for food. We have been overwhelmed by the public’s response and view this as the first of many initiatives that enable us to truly celebrate good memories and great dishes,” says Michelle Potgieter, Director of Corporate Marketing and Communications at Samsung Electronics SA.
The revered judging panel included Samsung celebrity chef Reuben Riffel, Carmen Niehaus, Tiaan Langenegger, Nina Timm and Sam Woulidge. They chose winners across six cooking categories: Fancy canapés, Quick snacks, Slow cooked dishes, Fish and seafood, Braai dishes and Desserts. All entrants were required to provide preparation details, as well as the story that inspired their submitted dish, on Samsung’s ‘For the Love of Food’ website. An image upload was optional, although many opted to showcase their delectable offerings.
“We were looking for unforgettable dishes, prepared with passion and infused with heart-warming accounts of remembrance. Some of the criteria the judges considered in selecting the winners included the originality of the dish and its truly South African character,” says Potgieter.
“The reason behind launching our ‘For the Love of Food’ campaign was anchored in celebrating South Africa’s uniqueness as a country and embracing our passion for food and home-cooked meals. The diverse range of feedback received, has truly shown how much we value and celebrate where we come from,” concludes Potgieter.
