The Jeppe Quondam sports and social club offered the old Bowls Club building to the retirement village for its own use.
“For some time now village residents have been asking for their own space to facilitate the many activities they enjoy doing together. We are really grateful to the club for making this building available to us, as well as its assistance with the renovations,” says Quondam Retirement Village Trust Chairperson, Barry Ireland.
The community centre will be used for a wide number of activities, says Village Committee member, Yvonne Tonini. “We have waited so long for this space and now that we have it the possibilities seem endless,” she adds.
Exercise classes, morning and afternoon teas, pedicures, movie nights, games evenings and even a night looking up at the stars are just a few of the activities planned for the coming months. The centre will also be used to host annual dinners and events and meetings held by the Trust.
The community centre boasts an extensive library and boardroom, thanks to all of the books, boardroom table and chairs which were donated. “The Community Centre has received a vast number of donations, from most of the furniture to the books in the library. We received so many books, in fact, that many of the duplicates were donated to other worthy causes,” explains Village Committee Chairperson, Jackie Welch.
The centre’s renovations took place over the past two months and plans are in place to build a braai area and viewing deck.
