MAQ provides opportunity for Fashion Designers

Roadshow Team (640x547)MAQ Washing Powder recently implemented a design competition inviting all South Africans to design new summer outfits for their fabulous Roadshow Team fondly known as the MAQ Ninja’s. The response was phenomenal and illustrated the number of talented fashion designers we have in our country.

“The MAQ brand is about more than just keeping your clothes looking fresh and new, the MAQ brand is synonymous with giving back to people. With this in mind, we once again embarked on a journey to make a difference in people’s lives. The design competition provided fashion designers an opportunity to showcase their craft and their skill. I must say that the design sketches were MAQnificent!” says Jacqueline Jacobs, Sales and Marketing Director -MAQ Washing Powder.

MAQ fans were invited to send in their designs, with the winner receiving R20 000.00 in cash. However, the designs were so inspiring that two winners were chosen: 22-year-old Nelly Makola from Mpumalanga and 20-year-old Kirsten Kearns from Cape Town.

About the Winners

Nelly Makola is a second year student who is studying Fashion Design at the Vaal University of Technology. A friend told her about the competition and she entered three days before the competition ended. She couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw her name on the list on the MAQ Washing Powder’s Facebook page. “Thank you MAQ for choosing my design, I hope it will be comfortable and fabulous just like my design sketches. I have bought a laptop, a sewing machine and a cell phone with my prize money. The remainder I will invest in a casting agency as I also have a great interest in presenting and acting” says Nelly.

Kirsten Kearns is studying towards a B.Comm Accounting at the University of the Western Cape. She saw the competition advertisement on the MAQ Washing Powder Facebook page and entered. “I love arts and crafts as well as drawing. I have never designed anything relating to fashion before, so winning this competition came as a shock to me, it was really overwhelming! What inspired my design was modern fashion trends. I will be investing my cash prize in my school books and do what most young people like to do and that is shopping! I would really like to say thank you to MAQ Washing Powder for this opportunity,” says Kirsten.

MAQ has hosted many events in the spirit of growing and developing the people of South Africa as it is a Proudly South African Brand. The recent events created by MAQ, including the MAQ Washathon, MAQapella and MAQaMovie are all testaments to this amazing brand that is helping to grow and develop people. MAQ Facebook fans will soon get to see the new Roadshow Uniforms on the Facebook page as we will be showcasing them for everyone.
