Following a successful Cape Epic where she won the Hannele Steyn Trophy for the first African Women’s team with Candice Lill, Amy McDougall has joined Team dormakaba. Her first ‘official’ race in team colours was the recent JoBerg2c race where she won the overall mixed title with teammate Arno du Toit.
“Racing with Candice and the rest of the team at the Epic was great. I was already friends with her and Samantha (Sanders) who was my Valencia teammate for the four years I was there. Everybody was really welcoming. Sam, the mechanic, and Liesle, the team manager and massage therapist, were lovely and made it so easy to integrate into the team. The Epic provided the perfect foundation for Shaun (Frayne) to approach me to join the team on a full-time basis,” says Amy.
Amy says she and Samantha will be focusing on stage racing for Team dormakaba this season.
“And, where the calendar permits, I will also be fitting in some XCO (cross-country) races and potentially some overseas trips. The team has such a wonderful energy that it really inspires all of us to do well. Shaun gets super excited about our racing which motivates and rubs off on us. He goes the extra mile to make sure we are comfortable and looked after properly. And then there is the team colours and branding that really stand out and make a statement.”
Aside from good results and promoting the dormakaba brand, Amy believes her personality, passion, and energy will add value.
“We are really excited that Amy has joined the team and wish her many happy kilometres racing with us. She brings so much and has already proven to be a valuable asset not only in racing but the overall team structure as well,” says Shaun Frayne, MD of dormakaba South Africa.
