Wicus Pretorius, the Editor of Home/Tuis, will be paying special attention to those entries that automatically draw him in when he judges the 2019 Innibos National Craft Awards.
“Crafting is a huge trend, but is what you are producing new? The challenge in an era of information overload is to create something that will actually make someone stop in their tracks – that one entry you want to take a picture of and share with others as soon as possible, because you have simply not seen anything like it,” he says.
As editor of SA’s biggest home décor and gardening magazine, Wicus has a keen interest in crafters, and especially crafters who create work in order to create jobs – not only for themselves, but also for others.
“People long for hand-crafted items filled with nostalgia but, above all, creations that tell a story. We need to celebrate the good more than we lament the bad. This is an example of celebrating the good!”
Wicus is an ex-teacher who swopped the classroom for the newsroom in 1997. “It’s been 20 years! I started out in newspapers, and then moved to magazines – tvplus, Huisgenoot and You, before joining Tuis/Home five years ago. “I help people live beautifully,” he says.
The closing date for SA crafters of all genres to submit their entries to the Innibos National Craft Awards is April 12. 2019. Entry is free. For more information and ENTRY DETAILS, please visit http://innibos.co.za/national-premier-craft-award-2019/
