As the Brand Manager of Tourvest Destination Retail, Maureen Waldeck knows what constitutes a marketable craft and will bring this knowledge to the 2019 Innibos National Craft Awards adjudication panel.
A seasoned retailer with an exceptional eye for merchandise, Maureen has a passion for product development, especially in the home-ware, African art and craft categories; for building brand value and mentoring young creatives and entrepreneurs.
When assessing this year’s entries, she will look for originality, creative use of materials, design principles and commercially-viable products.
“The Innibos National Craft Awards is a platform to exhibit the works of experienced artisans and to promote young, upcoming talent. It is a fabulous opportunity to view the crafting talent in a yearly exhibition, and an honour to be part of the process to stimulate and promote craft-making in South Africa,” she says.
Maureen joined Tigers Eye Retail, now Tourvest Destination Retail, after being self-employed for 22 years. As a business owner and creative entrepreneur, she gained extensive experience in multi-tasking and being able to adapt to the many different scenarios or challenges that arose.
She joined Tourvest Destination Retail in May 2006 as home-ware buyer. Since 2010, she has been responsible for both brand management and buying functions across all buying categories for Tourvest brands at OR Tambo International Airport.
The closing date for SA crafters of all genres to submit their entries into the Innibos National Craft Awards is April 12. 2019. Entry is free. For more information and ENTRY DETAILS, please visit http://innibos.co.za/national-premier-craft-award-2019/
