Decorex and Studio Collection give a taste of the top kitchen trends

Home design and renovation usually starts with the kitchen space – the central home feature where meals are enjoyed and family stories shared. To assist visitors in décor decision making, Decorex Durban has revealed the uniquely curated Kitchen Design Project by the Studio Collection brimming with modern kitchen trends.

“It’s important to remember that trends don’t come and go quickly,” explained Sian Cullingworth, Portfolio Director at Reed Exhibitions. “They emerge as a way to make living easier and more interesting, building on previous improvements and enhancing our overall lifestyle. This stunning new installation will give a glimpse into dominant global trends that boast urban sophistication with a local slant, touching on this year’s Decorex theme, ‘Designing for Africa – feels like home’.”

Kitchen Design Project by the Studio Collection

Specialist supplier and distributor of board products and worktops, The Studio Collection – working with local kitchen designers – will showcase four exemplary kitchen settings curated with a selection of on-trend décor styles. The designers – Expert Kitchens & Interiors; Southern Kitchens; RAM Cupboards and Nkayishana Décor Trading – are tasked with infusing the African-inspired theme into their kitchen creations.

Exciting kitchen trends

To give audiences a sample of the interesting kitchen trends they can expect to encounter at Decorex Durban, The Studio Collection has shared their top four kitchen trends for 2019:

1. Natural African grain veneers – we are seeing a move towards celebrating the very natural and warm features of this earthy look.

2. Crystal or high-gloss surfaces – although matte finishes are a big conversation in the interior design zeitgeist, we are still seeing a strong preference for high-gloss finishes, with Rehau’s Crystal range being a major frontrunner in terms of the top pick.

3. Classic-contemporary design – we are seeing more hybrid kitchen designs that incorporate the best of classic and contemporary designs such as combining natural veneers in a traditional door style with sintered stone worktops.

4. Island mounted hobs and extractors – we’re liberating the chef and allowing him or her to move more freely in their kitchens, rather than being pressed up against a wall.

Visitors will get more kitchen-based assistance from the Kitchen Specialists Association of South Africa (KSA) – a non-profit organisation that ensures an elevated standard of service and products within the kitchen industry. Experts from KSA will be offering useful tips and tricks for renovations and builds from the KSA Kitchen Advice Centre.
