Refined bathroom designs set to inspire at this year’s Decorex Cape Town

One of the most effective ways to enhance interior aesthetics is to focus on the décor style and fittings of the bathroom space. Decorex Cape Town, taking place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from 1 to 5 May, will expose visitors to current design trends, surfaces and finishes that are re-envisioning the modern bathroom setting.

“We have noticed a definite demand by show visitors for visual depictions of inspired bathroom spaces,” explained Sian Cullingworth, Portfolio Director at Reed Exhibitions. “The introduction of The Bathroom Project has been exceptionally well received, and we are really anticipating some incredible design ideas from Cape Town’s leading bathroom artisans and suppliers.”

Incorporating this year’s theme, ‘Designing for Africa – feels like home’, some of the industry’s most influential bathroom manufacturers will showcase a range of on-trend features that transform the space into a retreat of urban sophistication. This will include WOMAG, suppliers of premium quality natural stone, engineered quartz and porcelain slabs, natural stone and porcelain tiles, and design-led sanitary ware – all of whom have shared some of the leading bathroom trends.

Bathrooms in the spotlight

–        “Bold colours are an incoming trend gaining momentum, specifically on the darker side of the colour spectrum,” explained Oren Sachs, Managing Director of WOMAG. “There’s a multitude of ways to incorporate this colour trend with amazing innovations in the large format porcelain field, but also embracing the dramatic contrasts and movements in natural stone. You can incorporate this trend with tops for floating vanities, and mimic the natural elements with wood-look porcelain.”

–        Sachs said the wood aesthetic is also becoming popular throughout the home: “This can be incorporated into the bathroom through porcelain wood-look tiles. It brings about a warmth and comfort to the interior.”

–        Mel Cook of Cooked Studio, who is designing WOMAG’s two bathroom projects, said that geometric shapes, in general, are a common theme throughout the 2019 bathroom design: “Mirrors can be used to reflect the geometric trend. This is a simpler design, as opposed to fully carpentered cabinets. Slim frames with rounded corners are also a big trend at the moment.”
