Sevens highlights best of 2019 trends with its unique Decorex Cape Town feature

For an immersive experience of the best in décor and design trends dominating globally, the Decorex Urban Living Trend House with Sevens is this year’s not-to-be-missed installation. Crafted by décor experts, Sevens, this forms part of the expansive Decorex Cape Town features programme, running at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from 1 to 5 May.

“Visitors to this year’s Decorex Urban Living Trend House will be overwhelmed by the exquisite décor stylings presented by the dynamic team from Sevens,” said Anita Bloom, Creative Director for Decorex SA. “We are anticipating a focus on home-styled urban sophistication, incorporating some of the leading design trends that speak to this year’s exhibition theme, ‘Designing for Africa – feels like home’.”

Sevens talk trends

When it comes to interior décor and design influence, Cape Town-based Sevens is best-placed to outline the most impactful trends that are emerging within industry. Here are some of the more dominant influences Albert De Jager and the Sevens team have identified:

–        Terrazzo will continue to trend this year. Despite the fairly recent surge in popularity, terrazzo has actually been around for years – centuries in fact – originating in the 15th century in Italy. Coined as the new ‘marble’, terrazzo is frequently used for kitchen countertops thanks to its hardwearing properties.

–        For many years, Scandinavian design has been sought as cutting-edge interior style. With people now looking to express their individuality through different avenues, the home is seeing a shift from bright whites to moody hues, and from simple materials to more luxe styles.

–        Natural, organic materials are making a comeback with people rejecting synthetic materials with harsh chemicals and dyes in favour of raw materials such as bamboos and natural weaves with eco-friendly dyes and paints.

–        People are exploring more out-of-the-box, colourful sides and want their homes to be a reflection of who they are, and not a page out of a catalogue. Be prepared to see more individuality, warmth and personality expressed in interiors. People want to be surrounded by things that make them happy – such as natural products that bring the outdoors indoors.

–         When it comes to colours, the grey monochrome trend is on the way out and instead we’re seeing shades of sand and earthier tones like ochre, burnt gold, terracotta and, of course, the Pantone Colour of the Year – Living Coral – even being incorporated by fashion designers. Going monochromatic is in! Deep, rich monochromatic rooms can be the opposite of dark as their luminescent hues are decidedly seductive.

Decorex Urban Living Trend House with Sevens

Focusing on the latest Decorex Cape Town feature, Sevens – a family-owned business – has selected to celebrate its 40th birthday, as well as the 2019 opening of its Woodstock-based store, by participating in this stylish feature. This is the first of Sevens 5 stores to be opened in Cape Town, allowing them to become part of the trend Mother City. They will be incorporating their wide variety of décor items – able to furnish any space – as a way to give visitors a taste of what they’re about.

“Visitors will experience a feeling of high-quality comfort combined with timeless décor that includes natural elements and stylish finishes at affordable prices,” explained Albert. “It will be an introduction to some of our products and services that allow for the creation of individual design for every client. Get ready to be amazed!”
