Luminos shines a light on smart home living at Decorex Joburg

The integration of cutting-edge technology into the modern home has assisted in day-to-day living, with the emergence of Smart Homes welcomed in South Africa. This year’s Decorex Joburg – taking place at the Gallagher Convention Centre from 7 to 11 August – will showcase the inclusion of home décor into the Smart Home model with this year’s feature by Luminos Blinds.

“Smart Homes are the way of the future and are becoming much more accessible to South African homeowners,” explained Founder and CEO of The Blinds Syndicate, Ridwan Peer. “We are now able to equip our home with remotely activated ‘smart products’ that automate and optimise functions such as lighting and temperature. Our signature brand, Luminos, offers automated home solutions that combine aesthetic and function within the home.”

Here are some of the ways automated blinds can improve the home:

–        Convenience

As a superior option for solar protection and temperature control, blinds add so much comfort to a home. Through home automation, you are now able to enhance these aspects by simply pressing a button to open and close window covers throughout the home, or by setting a timer so this is done automatically.

–        Energy saving techniques

Through smart home integration, you are able to regulate your home’s heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), thereby saving on energy costs. Automated blinds can be programmed to close during the hottest parts of the day in summer, and open to allow for natural light in winter. This prevents the need for artificial temperature controls and, thereby, saves on home costs.

–        Safety and security

If you are away from home for an extended period, you are still able to open and close your automated blinds through remote access or scheduling. This creates the illusion of being home, even when you’re not, and acts as a deterrent to would-be thieves. With automated blinds, there is also enhanced safety within the home because the lack of cords means no risk for young children.

Although most homes do not yet have smart systems built into them, home owners are able to retrofit smart products. Luminos not only offers a full range of automated blinds, they have a team of qualified sales’ staff, technicians and engineers to provide home automation solutions to suit every lifestyle. This means automated lights, blinds, curtains, awnings and garage motors – all of which can be activated through voice command.

“There are so many innovative décor solutions that are enhancing daily living, but are also meeting the demand for on-trend style and design,” said Sian Cullingworth, Portfolio Director at Reed Exhibitions. “The Luminos range is a great representation of what consumers are looking for – function and style in the modern world.”
