Fundi recently returned to Tembisa High School to honour a promise made by CEO Makgau Dibakwane last year. He undertook to reward the five top-performing matriculants with brand new laptops to help them get started with the next chapter of their learning journeys as they left school.

Fundi’s handover of brand-new laptops to Christine Moreblessings Moyo, Godwill Ntsako Shabalala, Kholofelo Boloko, Ouma Monyako and Phindi Mkhonza at Tembisa High School left the five learners and the new matric class of 2022 inspired and motivated.

“At our Youth Day celebrations at the school last year, we wanted to encourage the matrics to remain focused and committed to their studies despite the ongoing challenges many were facing because of Covid-19,” explains Makgau Dibakwane, the CEO of Fundi. “We pledged to provide the top five performing students with laptops – which we have come to deliver to them in person. We want to celebrate all they have achieved and the promise of the future that lies ahead of them. We hope that the new laptops that they received today will give them a hand-up towards this.”

Each of the five students expressed appreciation for their new laptops and will be sure to use them as they continue with their tertiary studies.

“As one of the recipients of Fundi’s prizes throughout the year, I want to thank Fundi for recognising hard work and rewarding it. Being rewarded for the first time at the start of last year gave me a good push in the right direction and inspired me to try my best all year. Each term I was reminded by Fundi that I’m moving in the right direction and that they see that,” says Ouma Monyako.

The top three learners for term four of 2021 were also rewarded for their achievements. They each received a FundiCard pre-loaded with cash which can be used for groceries and other household needs.

Dibakwane closed out the handover event by thanking the school staff, learners and parents for their ongoing commitment to shaping their future paths. “We wish you well as you take your next step towards building your future reality. May the lessons your teachers and parents have taught you and the wisdom they have shared with you guide you. Continue to challenge yourself to work hard and become the responsible leaders we all see in you – and then come back here to do the same for others. Continue to make us proud!”
