Good Things Guy, Brent Lindeque:
Hereās a crazy idea. What if we work together to not only remove the cablecar emoji from the bottom of the list but actually own it as one of our own? Create a global story about how South Africa helped the little emoji āthat couldnātā get to the top!
Johannesburg, South Africa (20 October 2022) ā I was working on research for one of our Heritage Month campaigns last month when I came across a surprising bit of information.
I was looking for stats about emojis ā how often they are used, which ones are the most popular and also the least used ones.
There is a list that ranks all the emojis in the world. The usual suspects are all there. The smiley face š. The crying face š¢. The praying hands šš¼.
My surprise came when I saw what was at the bottom of the list.
Did you know there is a mountain cableway emoji š ? It was only added to the emoji database in the last ten years or so and it ranks at 818.
Ja, the BOTTOM of the list!
The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway in Cape Town is perhaps one of our most beloved pieces of South African Heritage. It is currently in the running to be voted the Worldās Leading Cable Car Ride, at The World Travel Awards. Public voting closes on 20 Octoberā¦ today! So the clock is ticking!
But hereās a crazy idea. What if we work together to not only remove the cableway emoji from the bottom of the list but actually own it as one of our own? Create a global story about how South Africa helped the little emoji āthat couldnātā get to the top!
What if we get everyone who tweets or posts about the mountain, the cableway or cable car, to start using this emoji?
Well, I called the team at the Table Mountain team who LOVED the idea.
The companyās head of marketing and brand Giselle Esau told me: āWe are so privileged to have people posting the most gorgeous pictures taken on the mountain, every single day of the year. These images share the beauty of our mountain and the cableway with the world, and we can make the emoji part of the brand. Every time you tweet or post about your love for the mountain and the cable car, please consider adding the emoji to your post.ā
So, my request to you is to help shine a light on a little emojiā¦ and hopefully create a really good global news story!
Letās be proud of our heritage and share it with the world.
Thatās it. Oh, go vote as well.
Okay. Love you. Bye.
