Competition between brothers is nothing new but the Harris brothers have increased the stakes by competing for opposing countries at the 2024 Ignition Group Polocrosse World Cup. Pretoria-based brother Stef Harris, who relocated from Zimbabwe to South Africa in 2005, will be representing the South African side in this year’s polocrosse contest. Meanwhile, older brother Damien Harris will also be looking to take the World Cup title, although he’s competing for the Zambian national side. In another familial twist, their father, Henry Harris – himself a renowned polocrosse player – is the coach of the South African Ladies’ side.
Commenting on the impending competition, Damien said: “We both have a strong chance of winning, and it’s an exciting yet challenging time for us. Our journey took different paths as we originally hailed from Zimbabwe, but had to leave and ended up in different countries. Despite this separation, our love for the game and each other has never waned. Playing against my brother in such a competitive environment will be tough, as we have always enjoyed playing together. I wish him all the best and know that our shared experiences will only enhance the spirit of the competition!” The sentiment is shared by his younger brother who said he grew up in awe of his brother and dad on the polocrosse field: “I am looking forward to playing against Zambia the most as I feel we have a point to prove and playing against my brother is always a challenge I welcome!”
The 2024 Ignition Group Polocrosse World Cup is taking place at KwaZulu-Natal’s Durban Shongweni Club from 17 to 28 July 2024. For the full schedule of events, visit www.polocrosseworldcup2024.com or buy tickets from TicketPro today!
