Following on the success of the 2024 #R10GoesALongWay campaign, the Fundi Foundation has launched its Registration Fee Bursary Campaign for 2025.
Deserving local students who meet the criteria and apply before the deadline date of 15 January 2025 stand a chance of receiving up to R30K towards their registration fees – bringing them that much closer to realising their tertiary dreams next year.
The Fundi Foundation opened applications for its highly anticipated Registration Fee Bursary Campaign this week. Designed to ensure deserving South African students overcome a critical barrier to their tertiary studies – registration fees – the initiative provides vital support to students when they need it most.
“Registration fees can be an insurmountable hurdle for many students who have qualified for tertiary studies,” explains Dumisani Sibanda, the Fundi Foundation’s spokesperson. “The upfront payment required to be settled before the student is registered is often unanticipated and hasn’t been budgeted for.” He adds that bursaries and other sources of funding often don’t cover these fees; effectively preventing capable and deserving students from achieving their academic dreams.”
Applications opened this week – on 15 December – and will close at midnight on 15 January 2025. “Students can apply online, with successful applicants receiving funding to cover their registration fees, capped at R30 000 per student.”
The Foundation has allocated a total of R600K towards the initiative, which will benefit undergraduate and postgraduate students wanting to apply at institutions established under the Higher Education Act 101 of 1997 (as amended by the Higher Amendment Act of 2001).
He notes that applications will be reviewed based on the submission of complete documentation and a written motivation. To ensure transparency, recipients will be selected via a random draw from the pool of eligible candidates.
“We urge students to please read the application form carefully and to submit all documentation requested timeously. These include pursuing an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification at a South African institution of higher learning, and providing proof of acceptance from an accredited institution for the 2025 academic year – all of which will be verified.” Perhaps most important however, is the motivation they need to share about why they should receive funding.
All applications must be submitted online to fund@fundi.co.za – and the link to the application form can be found on the Foundation’s social media channels.
“Fundi remains committed to addressing barriers to higher education in South Africa,” says Sibanda. “By supporting students during this critical time, we will be able to ensure a brighter, more inclusive future for them – and for our country. While we know this is a nerve-wracking time for most as they await their results, we believe this campaign will give many students the head start they need to the futures they deserve. We look forward to helping them make this happen.”
