Almost 500 squares knitted for Mandela Day

For the past 12 years, Rand Aid’s Thornhill Manor retirement village residents have celebrated Mandela Day by knitting squares – in all colours to celebrate our rainbow nation – which are sewn together by 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day and distributed to those most in need.

This year, the residents gathered in Thornhill Manor’s community centre on 17 July, armed with their knitting needles and balls of wool. Between them, almost 500 squares were knitted.

The ladies had a lovely afternoon chatting and laughing while enjoying tea and biscuits.
