Excitement is building as Comic Con Cape Town prepares to make its triumphant return this week, starting on Saturday through to Wednesday, including the public holiday.

The festival promises fans an unforgettable experience of all things pop culture and gaming while rubbing shoulders with celebrities who bring this world to life. Comic Con Cape Town offers fans the opportunity to engage with their favourite stars through panels, autograph signings, photo opportunities, and more.

Headlining this year’s event are distinguished guests whose contributions to film, television, and animation have captivated audiences worldwide.

Sean Gunn: Known for his roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Guardians of the Galaxy films. Lesley-Ann Brandt: Recognized for her role as Mazikeen on the hit television series Lucifer and set to appear in the upcoming Walking Dead spin-off. Veronica Taylor: The original English voice of Pokémon’s Ash Ketchum. Cast Members from One Piece: Including Aidan Scott (Helmeppo), Langley Kirkwood (Axe-Hand Morgan), Alexander Maniatis (Captain Kuro), and others from the Netflix live adaptation.

Doritos and Comic Con Cape Town continue their ground-breaking partnership into 2024. They are once again pushing boundaries by offering fans the chance to dive into the immersive world of virtual reality (VR) gaming with the Doritos VR League – a complimentary gaming area on the Comic Con Cape Town floor where enthusiasts can enjoy the rhythm game Beat Saber like never before.

Imagine putting on VR goggles and being transported into a digital universe where you become the controller. While this experience is exhilarating for the individual player, it also leaves spectators curious about what exactly is happening inside the game. This is where the Doritos VR League distinguishes itself. Located on Level 2 of the Comic Con Cape Town show floor, colossal screens display the player’s perspective from a third-person angle, effectively placing them in the game for all fans to witness their prowess as potential bold Beat Saber champions. The Doritos VR League promises to be an accessible experience to all calibres of gamers.

To add to the excitement of a five-day weekend, this year, Comic Con Cape Town is embracing the spirit of fun and creativity by adding themed events to two days of the festival. Because KidsCon is located on the Comic Con Cape Town show floor, there is no additional ticket required to make the most out of enjoying KidsCon. Comic Con Cape Town also has a policy that kids 5 and under enter the event for free!

Highlights of what to expect from KidsCon 2024 will include:

Toys “R” Us Shopping Experience: Fans can expect a Toys “R” Us shopping experience like never before, complemented by a range of top toys and collector items that can be bought at the event to extend the experience of Comic Con Cape Town. A first for Comic Con Cape Town, Monday and Tuesday extends into the night from 11am to 8pm, offering activities never seen at Comic Con Cape Town.

Monday: A Celebration of All Things Spooktacular

On Monday (29 April), Comic Con Cape Town will transform into a haven for fans of horror. Fans are invited to embrace the eerie atmosphere and partake in a variety of thrilling activities, including horror movie screenings, murder mystery games, escape rooms, prosthetic and make-up tutorials, horror-themed panel discussions, and much more. “There’s something for every ghoul and goblin at the Comic Con Cape Town Horror Celebration,” said Carla Massmann, Show Director of Comic Con Cape Town. “Whether you’re a seasoned horror enthusiast or just looking for a good scare, Monday promises to be a day of spine-tingling excitement. Families are still welcome to the event on this day. The theme promises to celebrate horror as a genre rather than scare fans away. But there might be one or two scary cosplays.”

Tuesday: The Cape’s Biggest Family Pyjama Party

Tuesday will see Comic Con Cape Town teaming up with Ackermans to host the ultimate family-friendly pyjama party. Attendees of all ages are encouraged to get cosy in their favourite character ‘jamies and enjoy a day of comfort and camaraderie. The schedule includes a dedicated PJ character cosplay slot, a dance party with international con DJ – DJ Elliot, family quiz and movie night, and more. “We’re excited to bring families together for a day of relaxation and fun,” Massmann said. “Our Pyjama Party is the perfect opportunity to come out and have some relaxed fun, connect with loved ones, and make some lasting memories.”
