As Solarpop celebrates its 10th anniversary, the company has been appointed as the official Southern African distributor for KAYOU collectible card games, including the highly anticipated KPop Demon Hunters Collectible Card Game and the upcoming My Little Pony Trading Card Game.
It’s a fun announcement for fans, but also a significant one for the local trading card market. The appointment reflects the confidence that KAYOU and Hasbro have in Solarpop, recognising the company’s role in growing the category across Southern Africa and helping bring some of the world’s biggest entertainment brands to local shelves.
Over the past decade, Solarpop has helped support and build major trading card communities around brands such as Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Magic: The Gathering and Bandai’s growing portfolio of trading card games. Through retailer partnerships, hobby store support, organised play, marketing and community development, Solarpop has become a key player in Southern Africa’s collectibles space.
The first release under the new partnership is the KAYOU KPop Demon Hunters Collectible Card Game, inspired by the global Netflix entertainment phenomenon. Fans can look forward to two product ranges: the Energy Edition, created for collectors wanting to build their collection and chase favourite characters and moments, and the Classic Edition, which brings additional collectability, premium card treatments and exciting chase opportunities.
Also on the way is the My Little Pony Trading Card Game, bringing one of Hasbro’s most loved global brands into the hands of Southern African fans and collectors. For younger fans, families and long-time My Little Pony followers, it offers a colourful new entry point into the world of trading card collecting.
“Being approached by KAYOU is a significant milestone for Solarpop and a proud moment during our 10th anniversary year,” says Philip Galliford, Senior Marketing Manager at Solarpop. “It reflects not only the incredible growth we’ve seen in the trading card category across Southern Africa, but also the trust that international partners place in our team, our retailers and our communities. Collectable Trading cards have evolved into one of the most exciting categories in the hobby industry, and we’re thrilled to welcome both KPop Demon Hunters and My Little Pony to our growing portfolio. We look forward to helping build passionate communities around these brands and creating exciting opportunities for collectors throughout the region.”
Southern Africa has emerged as one of the most exciting developing markets within the category. The appointment by KAYOU reinforces Solarpop’s position as a trusted partner for global brands seeking sustainable growth in Southern Africa.
