Time Out Pretoria launches to celebrate the best of South Africa’s capital

Time Out, the global authority on culture and city life, has officially launched Time Out Pretoria, bringing its signature city guides to South Africa’s capital. Joining Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban in Time Out’s growing South African network, the new digital platform gives Pretoria its own spotlight, celebrating the people, places, culture and experiences that make the Jacaranda City a destination worth discovering.

Created by people who know the city best, Time Out Pretoria goes beyond the usual listings to uncover what’s genuinely worth your time. From standout restaurants and buzzing nightlife to arts, culture, neighbourhood gems and local favourites, the platform celebrates Pretoria on its own terms. With its distinct identity, thriving creative scene and unmistakable local character, the Jacaranda City has plenty to celebrate – with Time Out’s deeply local and experience-led approach ready to bring it out of Johannesburg’s shadow.

At the heart of Time Out Pretoria is local knowledge. Each city guide is shaped by editors, city experts and culture connectors who know their surroundings, spend time in the places they recommend and understand what makes their city tick. Their insights help uncover experiences that go beyond the obvious, from established favourites to new discoveries shaping the local scene.

“Pretoria has an extraordinary cultural heartbeat, a distinct personality, rich stories and a vibrant local identity that deserves to be celebrated and discovered. With Time Out Pretoria, our ambition is to get to the heart of the city, uncovering the places, experiences and people that make it truly special. We’re not simply telling people what’s happening; we’re inspiring them to discover what’s genuinely worth their time,” says Aisha Mohamed, Managing Director at Time Out South Africa.

With Pretoria now firmly on the map, Time Out’s coverage stretches across Gauteng, connecting readers with the experiences shaping both the capital and its surrounding neighbourhoods through to Johannesburg, while continuing to champion the best of city life across South Africa.

Celebrating South Africa, One City at a Time

South Africa’s beauty lies in its diversity, with every city offering its own mix of culture, music, art, lifestyle, sport and food. Time Out brings the best of these experiences into the spotlight, helping people discover what’s happening in their city and experience it in ways that feel uniquely their own.

Spotlighting local favourites and neighbourhood gems to the places shaping the cultural conversation, Time Out connects people with the experiences that make their cities special. These stories are rooted in local knowledge, while also reaching an international audience.

For example, Johannesburg’s street food scene has earned a place among the world’s best, while Cape Town continues to receive global recognition as a leading city destination.

These achievements reflect what South Africans know: our cities have distinctive identities, rich heritage and vibrant cultural scenes that deserve to be celebrated at home and shared with the world. Through Time Out Pretoria, the focus remains on discovering and celebrating the capital from the inside out.

Time Out Pretoria Launches in Partnership with Jacaranda FM

The launch of Time Out Pretoria arrives during the city’s iconic jacaranda season, when Pretoria’s streets turn purple and the city comes into its own. The feature runs across five Jacaranda FM shows, with recommendations featured on Breakfast With Martin Bester and The Workzone with Alex Jay on Thursdays, The Workzone with Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp and The Drive with Rob & Roz on Fridays, and The Weekend Breakfast Boost with Lucky Du Plessis on Sundays. Each segment highlights a place worth visiting or an experience worth trying, giving listeners fresh inspiration to explore more of their city.
